New Jersey · safety check
Is NJMCDirect legit? Yes. The sites around it, often not.
NJMCDirect is the New Jersey Courts' real online payment system for municipal tickets. The problem is what surrounds it: search for "njmcdirect" and the results fill with lookalike sites wrapping the portal in ads, "service fees," or worse, a card form that is not the court's. One domain rule sorts all of it.

The official portal lives on njcourts.gov. That is the whole test. The real address is portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, and the old njmcdirect.com address redirects there. Anything else asking for your ticket number and card is not the court.
- Clone sites buy ads and chase rankings on "njmcdirect" searches, then either charge a made-up "convenience fee" to do what the portal does free of extra middlemen, or collect your details on a form the court never sees.
- The tell is never the design, it is the domain. Court payment systems in New Jersey live on njcourts.gov and state domains. A dash, an extra word, or a .com that is not the legacy njmcdirect.com means you are somewhere else.
- Type the address yourself or use the links on this page and the courts' own pages. Skipping the search results entirely is the simplest defense.
- Paying closes the case as a guilty finding, and any points on the offense post to your license. For a no-point offense, paying online is usually the sensible end of the story. For a points ticket, it is worth thirty seconds of checking first. Run the NJ verdict machine →
- At 6 points in 3 years, New Jersey bills an annual MVC surcharge on top of everything you already paid: $150 plus $25 per additional point, three years running. MVC surcharge brochure (ISS-50) Calculate your exposure →
- Court-listed deadlines still control. If your ticket is marked "court appearance required," the portal cannot resolve it, and missing the date creates a bigger problem than the ticket. The court named on your citation is the authority.
Not sure what the citation is actually charging, which court it names, or when the clock runs out? Photograph it — the scanner reads every legible line and routes you to your options. The photo is processed in memory and never stored. How Ticket Scan works →
