New York · safety check

New York splits in two: TVB in the five boroughs, local courts everywhere else. Lookalike pay sites? Neither.

Where you got the ticket decides where you pay it. NYC-issued moving violations go through the DMV's Traffic Violations Bureau — plead or pay on dmv.ny.gov. Everywhere else in the state, the town, village, or city court printed on the ticket handles it. The sites wrapping either one in search results handle neither.

The domain check

NYC moving violations: dmv.ny.gov → plead or pay TVB tickets (single-ticket app, or MyDMV for several). Outside NYC: the court on the ticket, findable via nycourts.gov listings. TVB does not cover parking or camera tickets — those are city programs.

  • Lookalike sites chase “pay NY ticket” searches and charge for what the DMV or your local court does directly — or collect details on forms neither ever sees.
  • Scope tell: TVB handles NYC moving violations only. Parking and red-light/speed-camera tickets are separate city systems, and criminal charges can't be resolved online at all. A site promising to handle everything is promising too much.
  • The domain tell: real New York destinations end in ny.gov or nycourts.gov. Type them yourself and skip the search results.
  • At the TVB there are no plea bargains — you pay (guilty) or fight, nothing in between. And New York's point schedule was overhauled in February 2026 with a 24-month lookback, so stale advice is everywhere. Run the New York verdict machine →
  • Six points in 18 months triggers the Driver Responsibility Assessment: $100 a year for three years, plus $25 per additional point — billed on top of everything you already paid.
  • A PIRP course cuts up to 4 points for suspension math and mandates a 10% insurance discount for three years — but it cannot cut the DRA.

Not sure what the citation is actually charging, which court it names, or when the clock runs out? Photograph it — the scanner reads every legible line and routes you to your options. The photo is processed in memory and never stored. How Ticket Scan works →
