Texas · safety check

Paying a Texas ticket online starts with the court on your citation. “Statewide” pay sites? Not real.

Texas has no statewide ticket-payment portal. City tickets go through the municipal court, DPS and sheriff tickets through a justice-of-the-peace court — and the right one is printed on your citation. Search results around “pay Texas ticket online” fill with third-party brands anyway. One directory sorts all of it.

The domain check

Texas courts live on government domains — houstontx.gov, harriscountytx.gov, and hundreds more. The official finder is the OCA court directory at card.txcourts.gov: look up the court printed on your citation and follow its own payment link.

  • Third-party sites buy ads on “pay Texas ticket” searches and resell what your court does directly — adding fees, delays, or a card form the court never sees. Texas has no statewide portal, so any site claiming to be one is not the court.
  • The tell is the domain, not the design. Texas courts pay through city and county government sites. If the address isn't a .gov you can match to the court on your citation, close the tab.
  • Skip search entirely: read the court name off the citation, find it in the OCA directory, and use that court's own payment page.
  • Paying is a conviction, and it lands on your record. Most non-CDL Texas drivers have a statutory RIGHT to a dismissal course instead (CCP ch. 45A) — the ticket goes away on completion. Run the Texas verdict machine →
  • Over the course limits (25+ over, 95+ mph)? Deferred disposition is the fallback that still keeps the conviction off — but you must ask before paying, not after. How deferred disposition works →
  • Compare the real numbers first — fine vs. course cost vs. the three-year insurance hit. Texas ticket cost calculator →

Not sure what the citation is actually charging, which court it names, or when the clock runs out? Photograph it — the scanner reads every legible line and routes you to your options. The photo is processed in memory and never stored. How Ticket Scan works →
